Zwischen Sein und Schein

fashion graphics in the GDR

Photos und Text: Markus Hilzinger | 2019-01-23

Whoever bothers to drive out to Oberschöneweide to the Reinbeckhallen will have the opportunity not only to walk around the morbidly fantastic industrial architecture of the AEG but also to visit the dynamic Projekt Reinbeckhallen.

Worthwhile is the exhibition by Mrs. Lindner, who pays tribute to the faceless GDR fashion designers and draftsmen.

At the well-known fashion institute of the GDR, which took after Bauhaus statutes, the designers were artistically gifted and drew expressively.

The great creativity was of course in contradiction to the prevailing economy of shortage but originality remained undiminished.

We were surprised how Sibylle Bergemann represented the subtle works in the exhibition.
