Jürgen Wittdorf, an exceptional artist
Text and Photos Markus Hilzinger | Berlin 2020
Whether wood printing or red chalk drawing, whether portrait or animal drawing, Jürgen Wittdorf was a virtuoso in his field.
Born in Karlsruhe and studied at the academy in East Berlin as a master student, Wittdorf depicts unique contemporary history of GDR art. Fast Rock and Roll, in any case certainly often too western, Wittdorf invents a visual language of a new youth. Gallery KVOST shows a unique collection, curated under the title "Lieblingsstücke", pictures that surrounded the artist in his apartment until his death and that were never to be sold.
Hanged in St.Petersburg manner and framed in various ways, the gallery and its curator have succeeded in creating a truly beautiful show of works, which was honored by Berlin's Senator of Culture Lederer.
Thanks to Jan Linkersdorff, Jürgen Wittdorf's work was saved in the first place, a boundless failure, even of politics.
