Mythologie Herkules

The Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe

Photos + Text: Markus Hilzinger | 2018-08-23

One of the most important princes of the Baroque was Carl von Hessen, Landgrave of Hessen Kassel.

Looking over the unique Bergpark, on top of an obelisk placed on a high belvedere, the monumental Hercules sculpture made of copper, is the 500 meters high park visible from far and wide.

Of course designed by an Italian architect, Giovanni Francesco Guerniero, and completed in the record time of 16 years, the cascading waterfalls, the grottos and garden follies, the visual axes and staircases, the pools and fountains with their special sculptures, and the gorgeous views over the mountains, the former royal residence is definitely to be recommended for a visit.
